Davenport Florida, originally called Fort Davenport was established in 1838 during the 2nd Seminole War. Fort Davenport Florida was 1 of the several Forts built within 20-mile intervals which reached from Fort Brooke, Florida to Fort Mellon, Florida. Today’s modern city of Davenport Florida had its start in the 1880s when the South Florida Railroad was extended to that point. Here is a unique history tidbit Davenport Florida was 1st known as Horse Creek and opened its 1st post office in 1884.
Davenport Florida attracted many people from all around to visit the intriguing Circus World amusement park. After the park closed it was rebuilt and opened as Boardwalk and Baseball which had a minor league baseball park that attracted spring training and minor league baseball teams like the Kansas City Royals. This development also failed in 1990 but was again redeveloped and re-opened as the beautiful Posner Park or Posner Commons Outdoor Shopping Mall which is located at Interstate 4 and Hwy 27.
